Founder’s Story

Where it all started.

Ntumai started with a simple observation from behind the wheel. Our founder began his journey as a driver on a ride hailing platform in Zambia, where he noticed that customers often needed more than just a ride. Some would ask him to stop at a shop, purchase an item on their behalf and deliver it to them, especially when they were unsure whether an online seller was trustworthy or whether a product was actually available. These small requests revealed a bigger need: people needed someone they could trust to save them time, run errands and get things done for them. What began as occasional errands using a personal car soon became the foundation of what would become Ntumai.

As the demand grew, so did the need for a better way to serve customers. We realised that smaller, more efficient vehicles, particularly motorcycles, could make errands and deliveries faster and more accessible. Through savings from the early days, our first motorcycle was purchased, and what started with one bike gradually grew into a fleet. From there, we began to think beyond simply moving packages from one place to another. We imagined a platform built for home, designed around the realities of Zambian customers, local businesses and the people who make deliveries possible. That vision led us to build Ntumai as a technology driven platform connecting customers, trusted local vendors and riders through one convenient experience.

Today, Ntumai is growing from that humble beginning into something much bigger. We are building technology that puts the city in the palm of your hand, while creating opportunities for local vendors, riders and gig workers to participate and grow. Our platform is designed to give customers reliable service, help vendors reach more people and provide businesses with useful data insights to make better decisions. Most importantly, Ntumai is being built with Zambia and Africa in mind. We started in Lusaka, but our ambition extends beyond one city. We are building towards a connected logistics network that can serve communities across Zambia and, ultimately, across the continent.

Core Values

What keeps us grounded.

Six rules we hire by, ship by, and apologise by when we miss the mark.

Customer obsession

Every decision starts with the rider, vendor or customer on the other side of the screen.

Bias to ship

We move fast, learn faster, and ship the smallest thing that solves a real problem.

Earn the trust

Money, time and reputation — we treat them like they're ours, because for our partners, they are.

One team, one fight

Engineers, riders, ops, vendors — same goal, same standard, no passengers.

Built for Zambians, built for Africa

We design for our streets, our payments, our languages, our weather. No copy-paste.

Delight is the detail

The hundred small things — a kind hello, a hot meal, a fast refund — that make people come back.

Teams.

Four orgs.
One mission.

Each team owns a different part of the journey. Together they get your order from tap to doorstep.
